Between Two Oceans Panama Canal, Panama (2006.12)

Completed about a century ago, the 77 kilometer (48 mile) Panama Canal connects the Pacifica Ocean on its south end and the Atlantic Ocean on its north end.
There are three locks at each end of the canal. Between the two sets of locks, there is a artificial lake, Lake Gatun, at approximately 26 meters above the see level. This photo was taken after the first lock from Lake Gatun toward the Atlantic Ocean.
The huge amount of rainfall not only nourishes the deep green forest on Lake Gatun, but also guarrantes the operation of the canal.
